Solar energy is one of the alternative energy sources being used today, to cut down on the use of fossil fuels. It is cheaper to use than traditionally used power sources. The sun is free to use and is completely renewable. There are many types of solar energy projects people can do to save on their energy bills. Some are quite small and quick to do, while others are larger and help you with your house's power needs.

The kids can do science projects about solar energy for school. Things like small solar powered cars can be constructed to show how solar works. They can also make a small version of a solar hot water heater to see how the sun's energy can heat water. These are just two ideas for solar energy projects kids can do. Many other ideas and plans can be found online.

Homeowners can start by heating their swimming pools with solar. This is the easiest and cheapest way to heat the water in the pools. From solar covers to solar thermal systems these are great ways to heat your pool. After seeing how easy and inexpensive it is to heat the pool you will want to expand. You will want to move on by doing solar energy projects to run your house's electrical needs and to provide hot water.

To provide your house with electricity, you will need to install solar panels facing south on either your roof or other area of your property that gets enough sun per day. The panels collect the sun's energy and then that energy gets converted into AC current for the house to use. With the right setup, you can provide enough electricity to run your whole house. Solar thermal is great for providing your hot water needs. With this system, a fluid, either water or antifreeze, goes through the solar collector where it gets warm. Then this fluid moves through tubes that heat the water for your home. This is another of the solar energy projects that are easily done for your home. This can save a lot of money on your power bill too.

These days though businesses, manufacturing facilities, educational institution are all looking into doing their own solar energy projects. Some of the educational facilities are doing these projects to train people and collect data about the benefits of solar power. The more we can learn about this type of energy the better the materials can be for producing it.

So look into how you can use solar power in your home today, through one of these solar energy projects. You will save money and being doing the environment some good too. You will be using an energy source that is renewable and clean!
